Eagle Pack Dog Food Review

Available fromPet Circle

Eagle Pack is manufactured by WellPet in the US. They make Wellness and Holistic Select, all of which are good products available in Australia. Wellness is by far the most expensive premium product, with Eagle Pack being the cheapest offering of the three. So how does it rate? Let’s take a look at the Original Lamb Meal & Rice Formula…

The main ingredient is Lamb Meal. This will constitute the bulk of the 23% protein in the food, which in kibble terms is relatively average.

The next three ingredients are all grains, but they’re decent selections. In a world where most pet foods (even cat foods) are formulated mostly from cheap cereal grains and cereal by-products, it’s nice to see they’ve selected oatmealbrown rice, and barley as decent grains, but it has to be noted the grains in the food will outweigh the meat.

The finer ingredients would boggle the mind of a biologist. I admit I had to google rhizopus oryzae as it’s not an ingredient we often see in pet food (it’s also in Holistic Select). It’s a probiotic derived from cassava to enhance the nutritional properties of the food as a whole. Many of the ingredients are carefully considered each for their nutritional benefit, with a range of vitamins, minerals, oils, and omega fatty acids for heart health, joint health, skin, and coat.

The food is predominantly grain based, but for those on a tighter budget it may be worth considering given the grains are good selections and the manufacturer is reputable. You could always mix in some mince beef, offal, eggs, and select fresh foods to enhance your dogs diet.

On a final note, Eagle Pack has been in production for over 30 years and has never been subject to a recall. That’s impressive.
